When Hunter Jue ’26 started her college search, her parents encouraged her to explore areas outside the Orange County, California, bubble she’d lived in all her life. A family friend suggested she look at Davidson, and everything fell into place from there, including financial aid through the Foscue Family Scholarship and The Davidson Trust.

“I wasn’t necessarily looking for a liberal arts college, but once I came to campus and sat in on a few classes, the decision was clear,” she said.

“Davidson was the place for me, and scholarship support made it an easy decision.”

Jue is declaring an environmental studies major and a data science minor, with plans to pursue environmental law.

“I’m specifically interested in the business side of things,” she said. “I’d like to help companies regulate emissions to make sure they’re doing their part.”

A true liberal arts student, Jue signed up for the Humanities program her first year on campus, which introduced her to Professor Patricio Boyer, who became a close mentor and helped Jue adjust to being far from home. Soon, her parents moved to North Carolina, joining their kids (Jue’s brother attends Princeton) on the East Coast.

Outside of academics, Jue is a West Coast Ambassador, helping the admissions team spread the word about Davidson. She’s also involved in the Pan-Asian Student Association (PASA) and is studying in Tuscany in the fall.

“I love this community so much,” she said. “Everyone is driven in their own ways but still very supportive of one another. I love saying hi to people as I’m walking to class, and I formed close relationships from the get-go. Those kinds of things really brighten my days.”
